I had every intention on getting a Five on Friday post up yesterday. I really wanted to, but our past two weeks have been so busy. We have had something going on every day for two weeks straight. It’s been crazy (and the girls are working a cookie booth tomorrow, so we are still chugging along).
But next week is mid February break, and other than a cookie booth and a sleepover at Grammy and Papas (provided no one gets sick) we have no plans. And I am trying hard to keep it that way. I sometimes have FOMO and want to do all the things. I have to remind myself just chilling with each other at home is wonderful. I also hope to get some YouTube videos and blog posts done.
Now onto our Six on Saturday!
One: Girl Scout cookie season
As I mentioned it’s Girl Scout cookie season. The girls sold to our friends and family in December and now it’s time for booths. We already worked a booth last week, and have lots more to do over the next two months. Both girls want to sell 750 boxes… Lord help me. Lol. Most of the cookies they earn is through booth sales as the cookies sold get credited to whoever works the booth.
Two: New hearing aids
I am finally getting new hearing aids! I first got hearing aids about five years ago. Then two years ago one of them stopped working, and since it was out of warranty it would have been expensive to fix. I finally back to the audiologist. The new hearing aids I’m getting come with custom cones (the part that goes into my ear canal) so they had to make a mold for them. It felt really weird. I am excited to get them in the beginning of March… as is my family.
Three: Subbing
Last year I started subbing occasionally and it really went well. I started the same thing this year, then saw that the school my girls go to was looking for a “floating building sub”. This means I would report to their school two days week, as long as another school didn’t need me. So, I called up my mom and mother in law to see if they each would be willing to take Aubrie to preschool once a week. Lucky for me they said yes, so I’m now working Monday and Wednesday. I love being in the school with my kids, and supporting the teachers.
Four: Recipe testing
I’ve really been trying to develop some new recipes that I can share here on my blog and on my YouTube channel. In particular I’m trying to play around with how the coarseness of fresh milled flour affects recipes, along with how sifting out some of the bran change things. I’m also trying to get some more meals on the blog.
Taco Frittata
I created this super simple taco frittata for dinner one night. It was easy to throw together and turned out quite nice. I may still play around a little more with it before putting it on the blog.
Recipe fails
Every winter I tend to make Amish friendship bread. Have you ever made Amish friendship bread? It’s a sweet bread that is made from a starter. Every ten days you bake some sweet bread and then share the leftover starter with friends. If you keep some starter for yourself you start the ten day process again. Because we’ve been making it for a while, I wanted to see if I could use the starter for other recipes. I was trying to make a cinnamon bun dough, but my first try.. major fail. the dough did not rise at all.
I also wanted to try making a sandwich bread. I thought it was going so great… then I baked my loaves and it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I am for sure going to try again, because I **think** I know where I went wrong.
Five: Cookie decorating
My parents’ neighbor’s daughter has started offering cookie decorating classes. My mom asked me if I wanted to go, and said she would pay for it and watch the kids. I couldn’t say yes fast enough! I’m loving how they turned out!
Six: Sticker making
Because I like to make my life difficult I told the girls I would make them stickers for their Valentines. The school has a no food policy (due to food allergies) so I decided to make some stickers. I attempted to make them waterproof, so we will see how that goes. Here are all the stickers I made for them to pick from. I loved the “Donut you know you’re awesome” but my girls didn’t appreciate it. So they went with the penguin.
I also made myself a waterproof sticker with my blog logo on it to put on my water bottle. I didn’t take a picture of it before, so I tried taking a panoramic picture… which kind of turned out.
Like I said before I am super excited for break to start. I hope that we can all relax next week, and that I can get ahead in my blog (think cookies and muffins). Have a fabulous weekend!
