I hope that everyone had a great week. The weather has been pretty crazy here with warm temps one day and freezing temps the next. I’m ready to wash the winter gear and put it away until next year. I haven’t dared do it yet for fear of jinxing all of Michigan.
Monkey bars
My girl learned how to do the monkey bars! She came home from school one day and told me “I can do the monkey bars now!” She couldn’t wait to show me on our play structure. She is so proud of herself. As am I.
Corned beef and cabbage
Would you believe before I met Matt I had never had corned beef and cabbage? Now I make it a few times year, one of them being, of course, St. Patrick’s day. If you are looking for a yummy recipe then check out mine. It’s a family recipe and so tasty! You’ll have to excuse the pictures, as it’s from my early days of blogging. This year I also made Irish soda bread, which I will be sure to make again.
Crafty crafts
I may not have finished this little St. Patrick’s day gnome until the 16th, but I got it done! My goal is to make a spring one to put on the blog.
Annabelle also had a dress as your favorite book character day, and she chose Dogman. Not half bad considering I forgot she needed a costume until 7pm the night before. One of the benefits of a crafty mom is that she has lots of material on hand to use.
Baking
A while ago blueberries where on major sale at the store so I picked up a few extra containers. I ended up freezing some and used them to make blueberry muffins. I’m not thrilled with how they turned out, but at least they were still tasty.
I also got a craving for cinnamon rolls, so made a batch of them. These are made with legit dough (not like my two ingredient monkey bread), so aren’t really the healthiest. But boy are they tasty. I actually baked half the batch and am seeing how they freeze to have later. I also frosted them with a maple frosting ( I didn’t have any cream cheese which is what I usually do), and it was so tasty.
Easter decorations
Today I started putting up my Easter decorations. I need to head to the dollar store to figure out what I am going to put on my tiered tray.
I also want to add a few more things to the mantle. Maybe some sort of tassel around our picture.
This is my pride and joy. It took me so long to make, and I for sure have the utmost respect for quilters.
Not a favorite, but on my mind
I also wanted comment on the continued hate I’ve been reading about, recently against those of Asian heritage. I am just so sad that people have such hatred, though not surprised. The the eight families that lost loved ones in the recent shooting in Atlanta, I pray you find comfort, and that the shooter be charged justly. To my friends or readers that are a minority, and are scared they will be a victim the next time they go to the store, I am sorry. I also know this xenophobia isn’t new, and is something you have had to deal with for far to long (something that you should never have even had to deal with). While I can not even begin to understand what you go through, I will continue to educate myself, and teach my girls to see the beauty in our differences. And to celebrate what makes us different, not be fearful of it.
I hope that everyone has a gook and restful weekend.
