It’s actually a little hard to believe we made it to the last Friday of January. I don’t know about you, but I think this month flew by. It helps that Annabelle is back in school, so now I actually have some time to myself during the day when Aubrie is napping. It is absolutely fabulous.
So let’s take a look at our week!
What we ate
Sunday: Homemade spaghetti sauce
Monday: Chose your own leftovers (this is a our normal dinner since the girls have dance class).
Tuesday: Left over enchilada taco
Wednesday: Frozen chicken (this is chicken we smoked in the summer, then vacuumed sealed and froze), rice, homemade baked fries
Thursday: Cod, peas, leftover fries
Friday: Crock pot chili
Saturday: Pizza
Sweet treats
I am trying to figure out how to make macarons. This is my second attempt. And although they look ok from the outside….
The inside is a bit hollow. They still taste great, but I really want to get them right. I’ve been researching, and I think maybe I whipped the meringue a little too long. So I will try again. 🙂
Outside time
On Sunday we got a “dusting” of snow which turned out to be a few inches. The older girls and I went outside to play while Aubrie was napping, and they requested I take photos of them jumping off our snow pile. If you follow me on instagram then you already have seen these photos, but I wanted to share them again.
The past few days it has been a bit cold, so I’ve been hesitant to get outside. When it gets colder my feet and hands get cold and go numb rather quickly (even with decent gloves, two layers of socks, and Sorel boots).
Advice needed please! 🙂
Ok, so I need some advice or just good ideas. Annabelle will be celebrating her First Communion in May. For those who may be unfamiliar, in very basic terms, it’s the first time that she will be able to receive the Eucharist during Mass. It’s a pretty big deal, and is a day of celebration.
Usually the girls wear somewhat fancy white dresses (think like flower-sih girl styles, but not quite “mini wedding dress”). Our problem? Annabelle doesn’t wear dresses, because she doesn’t like the way feel or the way they move around her legs.
I told her that most of the girls would be wearing dresses for her First Communion and asked if she thought she would be able to wear one for a little while at church. She really didn’t want to, and since I want her to have good memories of this and be comfortorable I won’t force her to wear a dress.
My issue. What the heck can she wear? She wants to wear something “girly” (i.e. she doesn’t want to wear a suit), but just not a dress. Do you know how hard it is to find a nice, “girly”, fancy outfit for a girl?? Really hard. I am totally not opposed to sewing her a nice shirt (I was thinking of one with lace or sequins), and maybe some sort of pants, but I just don’t even know where to start.
So I’m turning to you. Do you know of any examples of a fancy outfit for a girl that I could make work?? Even if I had an idea of what to do, I could try to find a pattern. If I need to sew something I will probably need to start now.
And also, why aren’t there more fancy outfits for girls that don’t involve dresses or skirts?! I’ve run into this problem at Christmas and Easter as well, but I can usually find something that works. I know that Annabelle can’t be the only girl who like feminine clothing, but doesn’t want to wear a dress.
Well that last part was a little long winded, but thanks for reading! I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend.
