I usually try to get my posts up around 6am, but lately this has proven to be a challenge. Most days I get up at 5 to work out before the girls get up. By the time I finish my work out and am showered it is around 6:30, and usually the girls are up (well, at least Annabelle is). I am trying hard not to be on my computer while they are up, but sometimes they are all playing nicely which allows me to have a little time to get a blog post up. Better late than never, right?
ONE: Outside time
If you are a normal reader of the blog, then you know one of my goals was to spend lot of time outside, and I created this tracker, that you can get here, to help me. Since June 15th we have spent 38 hours outside! It’s been a mix between walks, playing outside, going in the pool, and eating lunch or reading outside. Not too shabby.
TWO: Summer Reading
Although our library has an online reading program, it isn’t quite what I wanted. So I made up my own simple reading challenge. So far, since June 15th, we have logged four hours. The girls have earned a movie night (which we still have to do) and we got to build a fort. Our time logged is a combination of me reading to the girls, and the girls reading to us. In reality we have read a little more, since I am not counting the time I read Farmer Boy out loud to the girls.
Three: My Phone Screen Time
I can’t believe that I am posting this here, but I am. Part of a “90s style summer” is limited screen time, and not just for the kids. My phone as a “digital wellbeing” app included, and I am using it to keep my screen time in check. So here is my info, broken down by day.
Sunday: 1 hour 34 minute (1 hour 15 minutes on social media)
Monday: 2 hours 29 minutes ( 1 hour on social media)
Tuesday: 3 hours 53 mintues (1 hour 40 minutes social media)
Wednesday: 2 hours 44 minute (1 hour 15 minutes on social media)
Thursday: 2 hours 23 minutes (1 hour 10 minutes on social media)
Some of the screen time is occurring before or after the kids go to bed, but it’s a lot of work to figure that out, maybe next week I will do that. My overall goal is to reduce my social media intake on my phone to less than an hour.
Four: Why it is so hard to sit down some days
Another reason getting blog posts done is because Aubrie isn’t quite playing by herself. Some days she actually does do a good job, but other days she isn’t content unless she is in my lap.
Five: On the Blog
