These are such important concepts, but can be difficult to teach young children.
Enter, Karma the Elephant
Karma the Elephant was written by Mindy Tache, a mom looking to find a motivational tool to help her two young boys to share and show kindness to one another. Â She wanted an idea that could be used year round, something tangible for her young boys. Â Thus Karma was born.
Karma the Elephant is a stuffed animal that watches behavior and “reports” back to mom, dad, or another adult. Â The book helps to teach children about the importance of being kind to one another and making good choices. Â What’s great about this, is that you can use the book and stuffed animal in so many ways.
Perhaps you have been seeing a behavior that you really aren’t found of. Â Bring Karma over and discuss it with your child (or children), then put Karma somewhere to “watch”. Â When you are ready tell your kids “Go find Karma!” and then discuss their behavior. Â Has it been good? Â Then they can earn reward. Â Perhaps there are still things to work on, then explain why they aren’t getting a reward, and talk about ways to improve behavior.
We are using Karma to work with Annabelle on sharing toys with Autumn.
So far, Karma has hung out on our mantel.
As well as on our piano.
Although Annabelle still has a hard time sharing, I think we are slowly making progress.
If you are looking for a new motivational tool to help with you child’s behavior, then check out Karma.
