So…. obviously I wasn’t quite ready to return to blogging after my last post. I really did think I was ready. One thing about parenting is this:
It always seems to throw you a curve ball.
If you follow me on Instagram then you know I’ve been struggling with the addition of Aubrie. And it’s not like I can blame it on her being a “difficult” baby. Overall she’s pretty good (I mean she’s still getting up more than I’d like at night) and happy baby.
It’s just taking a lot longer than I anticipated to find my groove again. But I figured I’d share some insight onto why it’s ok to take one, and what happens when you do find yourself taking an unintended extended break.
YOUR VIEWS WILL DROP
I mean I think that’s obvious, but it had to be said. If you aren’t creating new content, then unless you are a super big blogger, you’re views are probably going to drop. This is in particular when the break isn’t really planned. I have taken a few planned breaks, but was able to schedule content, so my view remained pretty steady.
Here is a screen shot of my analytics after having Aubrie. I knew I would be taking a break so I did have about a month of scheduled content. However after that ran out my view started to drop.
P.S.: Don’t mind that major drop to zero views in March. My website was down for a little while and I didn’t realize it. #opps #bloggerfail
Surprisingly enough mine didn’t start really dropping until recently, which I attribute to the fact that I still had a presence on Pinterest thanks to Tailwind. You can see in July when they majorly tanked, which is because I had no pins cued up in my feed.
YOUR STRESS LEVEL MAY LOWER
During my unintended break I didn’t really think much about my blog. Maybe I shouldn’t be admitting this, but I like to keep it real. I was dealing with many other issues and my blog just wasn’t on my radar.
But because of that, I wasn’t stressed about getting a post up. I didn’t worry if I hadn’t posted on Facebook. I posted in Instagram when I remembered. But I wasn’t stressed about getting a post done. I didn’t worry about how I only had a few hours of good light to take pictures.
YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO RECHARGE
I have been blogging for a little over six years now. You can check out my first post here, but be nice. I have come a long, long, long way in those six years.
Six years of blogging though.
That’s a lot of content to come up with, especially when I thought I needed to post every day. What was I thinking?! In those six years I didn’t take very many extended breaks, so I think I was already running on fumes before Aubrie came.
Then she arrived, and my creativity plummeted. Like at an all time low. I couldn’t figure out what to post, and didn’t want to post for the sake of posting so I just didn’t.
IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO GET YOUR GROOVE BACK
So obviously, I’m just starting to get back into my blogging journey, but I have a feeling it will take a little while to get back into the swing of things. Before having Aubrie I would get up before my girls did. That is when I would work out and do my blogging. Be it working on a post or connecting with other bloggers. Since Aubire isn’t sleeping through the night, I refuse to get up before I have to. Sleep is important, so that comes first.
I also know it will most likely take a while to get my views back up to what they were before. I’ll try to update here when the views do get back up.
What about you? Have you ever taken an extended break from a blog, Etsy, or something similar? How did it affect you?
