This weekend we finally were able to have Annabelle’s birthday party. After cancelling it just before the world shut down, she has been waiting, and waiting. Once we found out the March Stay at Home order was going to last longer than anticipated we told her we would hopefully have it in the summer time, so it could be a pool party.
I didn’t really take any pictures of the kids (since it was a pool party, I didn’t want to be on my phone, even though all the parents stayed too). But I did manage to snap a few pictures of the cookies.
Unicorn Cookies
So I didn’t actually remember to take a picture of the whole cookie tray, but since we had some extra I was able to snap some pictures.
Did you know that you can freeze decorated sugar cookies? True story. I made these cookies back in March, and when everything stopped I was complaining to a friend, who happens to own cake/cookie side business. She told me I could just freeze then! So I used our vacuum sealer and froze them. Unfortunately, some of the cookies broke a little, but they still tasted great!
Paint Your Own Cookie
So back in March, I thought that one of the activities we could do at Annabelle’s birthday party was a paint your own cookie. But since we just swam the whole time, I stuck these cookies in the goodie bags.
It was really easy to make these cookies. I simply used a big cookie cutter, then used white royal icing to cover it. After it dried I traced an unicorn cookie cutter using an edible pen, then used then pen to add some details. After that was done I “painted” on the dots using icing food dye which I mixed with a little bit of water. After letting them dry they are good to go. To paint the cookie, the kids just have to use a paintbrush (I gave them one which I only use for cookies) and have fun. 🙂
Unicorn Headband
Another thing I was going to have out at Annabelle’s party where these unicorn headbands I made (you can get the tutorial here). But since we were in the pool, they just went into the goodie bags as well. 🙂
Unicorn Cupcakes and Ice cream
I made these unicorn ice cream cone cupcakes for the dessert. They aren’t my best work (the frosting ended up being a little bit to soft), but they tasted great, so that’s what it important
I also made some “unicorn ice cream”, which was a hit. Pro tip… scoop out the ice cream prior to the party and let the scoops sit in the freezer for a bit. Then you can put them into a bag and not have to worry about scooping ice cream.
Overall it was a great party. I am just so thankful the weather held out. All week they predicted storms, and I was so worried it was going to be a wash out. It was hot and humid, but thankfully everyone seemed to have a great time.
