For Annabelle’s birthday I am making these super cute and super easy DIY unicorn headband. I am planning on leaving them out for the guests to put on as they arrive. I wanted to share this DIY with you.
Materials Needed
- tulle in the colors of your choice. I went with the color of the rainbow.
- White felt
- white head bands
- Yarn
- Horn and ear pattern
Step One: Make the Horn
Start by laying a piece of the yarn you will use on the horn. Put a few stitches at the top of the horn to keep the yarn in place.
Fold the horn in half and sew up the side.
Turn the horn inside out, stuff with polyfil, and wrap the yarn around it.
Fold the tabs over and either use hot glue to close it up, or do a quick stitch.
Sew the small tab at the bottom of the circle. This is what you are going to put the headband through. Then sew this circle onto the bottom of the horn.
Step Two: Cut out the Ears
Cut out the ears and use some fabric makers or Sharpie to draw the inside of it. Then fold them in half and sew around the the sides leaving the bottom open so that you can slip them on the headband.
Step Three: Cut the Tulle
The first thing you need to do is cut the tulle. If you are using tulle in tubes (where the width is 6″) it is pretty easy. Each piece needs to be about 7.5″ long. If you are using lots of color, it can get kind of expssinve. If you go to a craft store you can buy tulle by the bolt, which is much cheaper. That just means you need to make sure each piece is 6″ wide.
Step Five: Attach Everything
To attach the tulle start by folding it in half and placing it under the headband.
Then put the ends through the loop.
Move the ends of the tulle so they are sticking up.
Continue with the colors, then put the horn in the center. Then continue with the tulle. Finally add the ears on either side.
Really, this easy DIY unicorn headband is fun and super simple to make. I can’t wait to see how all the kids look in them.
