We made it to Friday, thanks goodness! I still have a bit of a cold, but am finally starting to feel better.
Today I wanted to share with you five “learning activities” we did the past two weeks. I have really been trying to do more with Annabelle, but with two the struggle is hard. The past two weeks we have been talking about space.
1. Name rocket ship
So for this activity I cut squares out and wrote letters in her name (one letter on each square)
Then together we found the letters in her name and glued them onto the sheet. She did a pretty good job, and just need a little extra guidance.
2. Papa Please Get me the Moon
One of the books we read was Papa, Please get me the Moon, by Eric Carle. I thought it would be fun to do a little craft with it.
First Annabelle finger painted with blues and purples.
Then, on another sheet of paper, she painted with green.
Then, I cut a circle out of white paper, and had Annabelle tear up a piece of white paper. She then glued those pieces to the moon to give it a “crater” look.
Last, Annabelle helped me cut the green out to look like a hill and we glued that, along with the moon onto the sky. I totally wanted to add a ladder (made from tooth picks) with a picture of her reaching for the moon, but that didn’t happen.
3. Marble Planets
This was a pretty fun project to do, and I’m digging how it turned out.
First I filled a pie tin with shaving cream and used a paint brush to smooth it out.
Then I drizzled acrylic paint up and down over the shaving cream.
Ater I had Annabelle run a toothpick through it to give it a marbled look.
We then took circles of white cardstock and pressed them into the shaving cream, then removed them and let them sit for about 2 minutes. After sitting I took the flat end of a knife and scrapped off the shaving cream. We then glued it (and sparkles) onto a black piece of paper.
4. Count the Rays
So for this one I cut a circle out of paper and put numbers and corresponding dots on it. I then cut a sun and rays out of felt. Annabelle picked a circle and then we counted the dots to figure out how many rays to put on the sun.
5. Bean Bag Toss
So originally I wanted these to be stars, but cutting circles is much easier. I had Annabelle “toss” the bean bag “onto” a number. We then counted the dots to figure out the number and did some sort of gross motor movement that many times. For example, if it landed on 9, then I had her jump 9 times, or try to balance for 9 seconds (while holding my hand).
PS: totally made the bean bag. It is super easy and hope to get it on the blog soon.
