All of my girls love wearing hair bows, so I knew I wanted to make some of my own. I had made some in the past, but thought it would be a lot easier if I could use my Silhouette to cut the bows out. After a few attempts of getting the setting right, I am excited to share this free hair bow template with you.
I’d like to note how hard it is to get a picture of a bow in a toddler’s hair. They have no desire to stay still enough to get a picute.
Materials needed
Faux leather sheets (you can find these on Amazon or Etsy)
.studio pattern
SVG pattern
png pattern
jpeg pattern
hot glue
hair clips
Download the pattern that works best for you. If you don’t have a Silhouette or Cricut you can download the png or jpeg pattern and use them as stencils. These patterns are all for the small bow and the small double bow. To make the larger bows you simply need to enlarge the pattern.
How to put the bow together
You’ll have to excuse the fact these pictures are from when I made my girls Halloween bows. That was when I had wanted to get this pattern on the blog. But, obviously that didn’t happen. Thankfully the directions are the same for all of the bows.
Start by cutting out your pattern.
This picture below shows the material for two bows. If you choose to do a double bow, you would have two of the oval-y shapes for each bow.
Take the oval-y shape and meet each end in the middle.
Put a dab of hot glue in the middle of the wrong side. Then fold each end to meet in the middle. If you are doing a double bow, do this for each oval-y shape.
Glue the folded bow onto back piece.
Not a whole lot of explanation needed. Put a dot of glue on the right side of the back piece and blue the folded bow on top. If you are doing a double bow be sure to glue the larger folded part first.
Add the middle “knot”
Wrap the long narrow rectangle around the middle of the bow to create a “knot”. Put a small dot of glue on the back to hold it in place.
Glue the clip on
Glue the clip on the back of the bow. I like to take a small strip of felt and wrap it around the top part of the clip (the part that is glued to the bow) to help hold it in place.
And that’s it! I love that I can use my Silhouette to cut these out. I had to set the force pretty high, have it make three passes, and go a little slow to actually cut the material out. So far I’ve made quite a variety of bows. It’s really easy to make them whatever size you need.
I am really loving how these reindeer bows turned out. The glitter faux leather is just so much fun.
Autumn is loving this extra big bow. It’s goes great in pony tail.
I hope that you love this free hair bow template. It’s so much fun to use it to make all sorts of seasonal hair bows! Next up will be making some Valentine Day bows (you can check out my crochet heart headband here). 🙂
