Life can get busy. Between sports, school, or going to the park it seems that we are always on the go. As a mom to two young children, it’s not easy to just throw the kids in the car. Often times one of my girls will have an activity, while the other one has to wait. And well, waiting isn’t exactly a child’s strong suit. Between getting bored or getting hungry I need a game plan, and that comes in the form of an on the go screen free survival kit.
So what exactly do I keep in my on the go bag?
SNACKS
First and foremost is snacks. I think this is the most important thing to include in our survival kit. It doesn’t matter if we have just eaten, whenever we go anywhere my girls automatically say they are hungry. My go-to snack for our kit? Goldfish crackers. I was at the store the other day and made sure to pick some up, as we were running low.
I love that they are a snack I can feel good about giving my girls. They are baked with real cheese, and have no artificial flavors or preservatives. Did you know that the colors of the Goldfish Color crackers are sourced from plants? I think that’s pretty cool.
PAPER WITH CRAYONS AND STICKERS
Crayons and paper can provide lots of entertainment. Not only do my girls use them in the car , but if one of them is going to be waiting at an event, then it can come with us. I made my girls each their own holder, so that it’s easy to grab. I also like to include stickers in their crayon holder. I’m not sure if it is just my kids, but my girls love stickers! I love that they can use both crayons and stickers together to strengthen their imagination. And when my girls are being creative, they aren’t whining or fighting, so it’s a win!
BIG BEADS WITH YARN
This is another great activity to include in an on the go kit. The big beads aren’t likely to get lost in the car seat, and there are lots of different activities you can do with them. When putting together a on-the-go bag I think it is super important to have items that allow children to have multiple options. Not only can you build find motor skills with big beads and yarn, you can also work on counting and patterns.
BOOKS
I am so thankful that both my girls love books. While neither of them are old enough to actually read the words in the book they still love looking at the pictures. My older daughter has even started to make her own stories up based on the pictures (makes my teacher heart happy). Sometimes she’ll even tell her stories to her sister.
CLOTHES PIN ACTIVITIES
Clothes pins are just for hanging clothes on the line! The make for great portable activities as well! You can paint them and do a color match. Or you can practice matching upper and lowercase letters. You can also work on math skills like sequencing numbers or additions facts.
Goldfish CRACKER GAMES
Not only are Goldfish crackers yummy to eat, they are fun to play with to! I really like all the activities you can do using Goldfish Color crackers. I mentioned earlier that these crackers are made with colors sourced from plants, and I thought I’d share a little more information on that. The red Goldfish crackers are colored using a mix of red beet juice concentrate and paprika extracted from sweet red peppers. The green Goldfish crackers color comes from watermelon & Huito juice concentrates mixed with extracted Turmeric. The yellow Goldfish crackers color comes from extracted Turmeric. And the blue crackers come from Huito and Watermelon juice concentrates.
You can use Goldfish Color crackers for a multitude of activities. Have your child take a handful of crackers and graph them. Talk about which color has more, which one has less. Or try making patterns. Depending on the age of your child you can start one for them, or let them create their own. Plus, when you are done, you have a snack you can feel good about eating.
What about you? Are you family that it always on the go? Do you love Goldfish crackers as much as us?
