I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Autumn had a bit of a rough time, so that led to a very tired momma. I spent a lot of my weekend working on re-vamping my Etsy store. I created labels to add to my clothes and ordered them today, so we will see how they turn out. Next up is to create a new banner.
I also posted the first part in my photography series, you can read about it here. Hopefully y’all will find it useful! By the way… did I just use y’all?! I totally read too many blogs written by southern ladies. 😉
What I really wanted to share with you were some leg warmers I made for Autumn. The goal was for them to be done for Christmas. #thatdidn’thappen. So now they are Valentine’s Day ones! This is my first time sharing a crochet pattern, so I hope everyone can follow it.
PS: Not into crocheting, but like the leg warmers? I have these listed in my Etsy store (button on the side bar) with out the flower (to worried it could fall off and become a choking hazard).
Valentine Day Leg Warmers (written for a 3 month old)
What you Need
Size M hook
Worsted Yarn- size four red
Worsted Yarn- size four white
**I used Red Heart Super Saver**
Key
ch=chain
sc=sc
sbpc=single back post crochet
hdc= half double crochet
dc= double crochet
*This pattern is worked in rows, not the round due to the nature of hdc.*
To create the top ribbing
Row One: ch 6, sc in the 2nd crochet from hook, and in each one across (you should now have 5 crochets). Ch 1 and turn.
Row Two-thirty: sbpc in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn.
*If you are making these for an older child, keep going with the rows. You’ll want to stop when they will fit around your child’s thigh. It’s ok if they are a little tight since the crochet will stretch,
The leg warmers
Row One: Next you will want to work single crochets across the bottom of the ribbing. I ended up with 26 single crochets. Once you get to the end ch 1 and turn.
Row two-sixteen: work one hdc into each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn.
*Once again if you are making these for an older child, keep going with the rows until they are the length you want.**
After you finish this, you will end up with something that looks like this (the ribbing is really the top of the leg warmers)
This measures about 6.5″ wide and 5.5″ tall.
Ruffles:
After you finish you last row ch 2 instead of 1 and turn. Going across the bottom work 4 dc into each stitch. This will form you bottom row of ruffles.
Next you will want to work some single crochets into the row above the ruffles. It’s hard to explain, I hope the picture gives you a better idea of where to work them.
To do this:
Work the crochet hook into the next stitch
Yarn over
Pull yarn through first loop (you now have two loops on your hook)
Yarn over.
Pull through both loops, now you only have one loop on your hook.
After you worked the single crochets across, ch 1 and turn. Then work 4 dc into each stitch across.
Finally create your leg warmers by joining the ends (I forgot to take pictures, so I hope this makes sense). You can see the seam in the center of the warmer.
Now it’s time to make the flower! I took pictures, which I thought had turned out, but apparently not, so I will try to explain how I did it (and redo a flower with pictures)
Start by making a magic circle with ten single crochets.
To make a petal
Work 1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc into the stitch after the one you joined your magic circle with.
Slip stitch into the next stitch.
Repeat this to form each petal.
Attach flower to your leg warmers and you are done! Put ’em on your babe and take lots of adorable pictures!
**Please be extra careful with the flower. If it were to fall off it could become a choking hazard.**
I just love those cute little feet poking out of the warmers. 🙂
