Winter time here in Michigan can get cold. The other night when I was working on the blog, my hands got super cold. I decided to make some DIY crochet arm warmers. If you are looking for a super fast project, check out this crochet beanie, or these adorable rainbow leg warmers.
There are pretty easy to make, so I decided to share the pattern with you! This is one of my first times sharing a crochet pattern, so I hope that it makes sense. If you have any questions, please, please ask! I plan on including more crochet patterns on the blog in the future, so be ready!
I would say I have a medium sized hand, so these warmers will probably fit most people.
What you need
Size 4mm (G) crochet hook
Medium Weight yarn (I use a worsted 4 by Red Heart)
yarn needle
Abbreviations (US Terms)
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
Sc: single crochet
Bpdc: back post double crochet
Bpsc: back post single crochet
Tr: triple crochet
Start by chaining 33
Row 1: in fourth ch from hook work a dc.
And this is what it looks like with the dc.
Then dc across. Ch 3 and turn. [30]
Row 2: dc in each stitch. Ch 1 and turn [30]
Row 3: bpsc in each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn [30]
You will end up with stitches that look like this:
Row 4: sc in each stitch across. Ch 3 and turn [30]
Row 5: bpdc in each stitch across. Ch 3 and turn. [30]
Row 6: dc in each stitch. Ch 1 and turn [30]
Now your arm warmer should look like this.
Row 7: bpsc in each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn. [30]
Row 8: sc in each stitch across. Ch 3 and turn [30]
Row 9: bpdc in each stitch across. Ch 3 and turn. [30]
Row 10: dc in each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn.
**Ok, for the next two rows, there are different directions for the left and right hand. We are making the thumb holes.**
RIGHT HAND:
Row 11: bpsc 9, 1 sc, ch 7, skip 3, slip stitch into next stitch, sc in same stitch you slipped stitched into, continue bpsc in the rest of the stitches. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 12: sc 17. This should get you to the chain. Work 4 sc into chain, then continue sc in the rest of the stitches. You should end up with 30 stitches. Ch 3 and turn
LEFT HAND:
Row 11: bpsc 17, 1 sc, chain 7, skip 3, slip stitch into next stitch, sc in same stitch, bpsc in the rest of the stitches. Ch 1 and turn
Row 12: sc 9, which will get you to the chain. Work 4 sc into chain, then continue with sc in the rest of the stiches. You should end up with 30 stitches. Ch 3 and turn
**Ok, now the rest of the pattern will be the same for both hands**
Rows 13-20: repeat rows 5-8 two times
Row 21: Bpdc in each stitch across. Ch 3 and turn. [30]
Row 22: Dc in each stitch across.
Now, its time to connect the long edges of your warmers. You can either use a yarn needle to sew them together, or use your crochet hook. Which ever way you like better.
After you have connected the sides together, you should have a long tube. Next up is adding the scalloped edges. To do this work 22 sc along the bottom of your band.
The way I did this was by working 1 sc into the pair of sc rows, then three stitches into the pair of dc rows. It’s hard to explain, and I hope the picture helps make it a little clearer.
Then, you will work 5 dc into the first stitch, slip stitch into the next stitch, work 5 dc into the next stitch. Continue this around. Finish and tie off.
BAND
Chain 24
In fifth chain from the hook work a tc. Tc across and tie of end. [20]
BOW
chain 13
Row 1: dc in fourth chain from hook. Dc in each stitch. Chain 3 and turn [10]
Row 2: Dc in each stitch across. Chain 3 and turn [10]
Rows 3-4: repeat row two.
Tie off, but when you cut the string make sure it is very long. Use this to wrap around the center of the bow a few times. You will finish wrapping it when you attach it to the arm warmer.
Assembling
Use a yarn needle to attach the band to the arm warmer.
Last, attach the bow by continuing to wrap it. This time though you will bring the yarn through the band and arm warmer, then back up.
And you’re done!! 🙂
