A few weeks ago I talked about how I wanted to include more “learning” in Annabelle’s day. Not sitting down and doing worksheets or anything, but trying to learn through play.
Annabelle really likes pointing out the different colors she sees around her, so I decided to start incorporating more color activities into our day. If you missed my first post on a color sorting actvity, check it out here.
Painting is a great activity to do with colors (it does get a little messy at times .almost all the time), but for the most part kids love it! Each week or so we focus on talking about one color, which is the color I have Annabelle paint with. I make different shades of the color and have her go at it. My plan is to glue pom-poms and other fun textures to the painting when it is dry.
Last week we talked about the color red. So I put some paper on the easel and let Annabelle paint.
To be honest she really didn’t seem all that into it. She was having fun painting her hand though (which is great since she normally hates having messy hands).
This week we have been talking about blue, so I mixed up some different shades of blue and let her paint at the easel again.
This time she was way more into it.
Once again, she really like painting her hand, this time she smeared it all over the paper as well.
In the future I plan on having her use different materials (like spoons, forks, q-tips) to paint with as well as letting her do it outside (which will help minimize the mess). When we are inside I tape a trash bag under the easel to catch any paint that doesn’t make it onto the paper.
I also saw this cute activity on Facebook, so decided to do it with Annabelle.
It is supposed to be a peacock, and it was made with her footprint for the body and hand prints for the feathers. I usually try to have most of the crafts I do be “child led”, but this was just too cute to pass up!
Stay tuned for more activities in the future!
