I hope that everyone had a safe and restful Thanksgiving break (for my American readers that is. I hope that everyone else had a great weekend too). We were oh so busy, yet not so much all at the same time. It’s hard to believe that we are back to school/home school tomorrow. We are supposed to get some snow Monday/Tuesday and I am secretly hoping (well not so secretly now, since I’m saying it here) that we get a good snow fall.
Wednesday the 25th
On Wednesday we did a bunch of prep work for Thanksgiving. Although it looked different than years past, we still made sure to make all of the food.
I made an apple pie.
And a pecan pie. And clearly had a little too much fun doing a “photo shoot” with them.
I also made this homemade pumpkin pie, but never took a picture…oops.
Matt and I also prepped our two turkeys. One Matt buchered and put a dry rub on for smoking. The other we placed in a brine. I then used the gibblets to make stock for the stuffing, and used the bones from the butchered turkey to make stock for soup and for gravy. I had three pots simmering on the stove.
I also prepped all of the casseroles so I didn’t have to worry about it tomorrow.
Thursday the 26th
Turkey Day!! In the morning we got the turkey ready and in the smoker. Then we just sort of bummed around. I made a charcuterie board for us to munch on until dinner time.
We watched the Lions loose, which is par the course. And actually, the Lions fired the head coach and general manager the next day! It’ll be interesting to see if maybe we can have a decent team one year.
After dinner Matt changed the overhead cabinet lights to red and green! And Matt and I kicked off the holiday season by watching Die Hard. Which is a Christmas movie, don’t come at me!
Friday the 27th
On Friday we started decorating for Christmas!
I love putting all this garland on our banister.
And of course we decorated our tree!
I also put up more of my DIY cabinet wreaths. I still have a few more wreaths to finish up, but I am loving the look!
I’m not done with everything quite yet, but I’ll try to do a house tour later. 🙂
Since I forgot to take a picture of what we ate for dinner on Thanksgiving, you get a picture of a plate of leftovers. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce!
That night Matt and I let the girls stay up for a movie night, and then after they went to bed we watched Die Hard 2 (another Christmas movie 😉 ).
Saturday the 28th
No pictures for this day, but we finished decorating the tree, and just sort of bummed around again. Matt and I watched Die Hard 3 and 4. Not Christmas movies, but we are on a roll. 😉
Sunday the 29th
The morning started off kind of rough (late night, and Aubrie decided to get up super early) for me. When Aubrie napped, Matt watched the older girls so that I could take a nap too. Then we watched movies until dinner time. I introduced the girls to Santa Clause is Coming to Town, and they seemed to like it.
This view with the tree never gets old.
And that Chick-Fil-A commercial…. “Be the Spark”….. yeah…. I teared up a bit.
I hope that everyone has a great week!
