How is everyone doing today! It’s been busy this week with doctor’s appointments, errands, and unfortunately needing to put our cat Snickers to sleep. He has been pooping and peeing on the carpet for about 2 years. We have tried everything under the sun to help, but the vet suspects he had cancer. It sucked. At any rate, onto something a little more uplifting, a free r-controlled vowels sort printable.
Ok, maybe not totally up lifting, but hopefully helpful for some of you. I recently noticed Annabelle is struggling with r-controlled vowels while writing. So I created these to help her practice.
For those of you who aren’t teachers (or don’t have young kids) r-controlled vowels are words with -ar, -er, -ir, -or, and -ur in them. It’s understandable that she is having problems writing them, since it kinda sounds like it should just be an r, which is what makes them so tricky.
Free R-Controlled Vowels Sort Printable: The Pumpkin Patch
The first printable I want to share is sorting pumpkins. I haven’t done this with Annabelle yet (as I want to laminate the cards), but the activity is pretty self explanatory. Look at the pictures, and decide which r-controlled vowel it goes with. I am also going to have Annabelle write the words on a separate piece of paper. My hope is the more she writes them, the easier it will be for her to recognize what to use when doing her own writing.
Also, for those of you wondering what is under the girl, it is a swirl…. it was hard to find some images for these words.
Practice writing r-controlled vowels
I also made and laminated cards for her to figure out what r-controlled vowel belongs in the word. While only -ir and -ar are done right now, I plan on updating the file when the rest are complete.
I tried to use a variety of pictures, but, like I said earlier I’m kind of limited to what is available.
I’m sorry to those of you who come to my blog for the recipes and crafts. For the time being you will probably see more education stuff, since that’s what most of my focus is on. Our district is having a board meeting tonight to discus phasing back to some face to face learning, so I’ve got my fingers crossed whatever the powers that be are planning will work for us.
