If you’ve read this blog for a while, then you know that besides two daughters, we have two cats. They make appearances on my Instagram and Facebook, and I love them dearly. Matt and I have had them for nine years, and they are very much part of our family. They are wonderful with our girls, and actually love snuggling.
With cats, comes litter boxes. While you may think just any litter will do, it’s actually important to pick the right kind. I remember my vet telling me to be careful with scented products, since cats’ noses are more sensitive than ours. That’s why I’m always on the look out for an unscented litter that will keep things clean, but not be overpowering in the scent department. And I found that product at Target.
New Purina® TIDY CATS® Free & Clean™ Unscented Clumping Litter is a traditional clumping product with the power of odor-absorbing activated charcoal. When you have a litter box, then you know that odor control is a must. Tidy Cats Free and Clean also comes with TidyLock® protection, giving you the clean you need. It is also forms strong clumps, making clean up a breeze, and is 99.9% dust free. We went with the 35lbs product. And as a bonus, it was buy one get one 1/2 half off!
If you are looking for litter is free of fragrances and dyes, but still keeps odors away by using activated charcoal, head to Target and pick up some Tidy Cats Free and Clean. It’s available in both Traditional Clump and Lightweight.
Since I was stepping up my litter game, I decided to pamper my cats by making a new cat bed for them to snuggle on. Whenever I sew my cats are always trying to sleep on the fabric, so I knew they would love their own soft bed.
I decided to make this with a removable cover so that it can be washed when needed. The first thing you need to do is make a pillow. Sew two pieces of fabric, 22″ x 22″ together leaving space to turn it the right way, and stuff it.
Stuff the pillow, and sew the opening shut.
Next up is to make the cover. Start by cutting two pieces of fleece 30″ by 30″. Draw a square 25″x 25″ in the center of one of the pieces. You can see it in pink in the picture below.
You are now going to cut a slit about 7.5″ done, from one side of that square you just drew to the other. This is where you will be able to insert the pillow.
Now cut a piece of fleece that is 25″ x 8″. Fold it in half, and sew the sides only, leaving the bottom open.
Pin the raw edges to the top of the of the slit, and sew it in place.
Flip the band down, and then pin both fleece squares together and sew on the pink square you drew.
Now to make it look fun! Starting on one side you are going to cut slits. Cut them about an inch thick, and up until just before the square you sewed.
Tie the two pieces of fabric in a double knot.
Continue doing this around the pillow.
When you get to the end of a side, you are going to want to cut off the access, before starting the next side.Â
When you are all finished insert the pillow through the slit in the back and admire your work!
It didn’t take long for one of my cats to find and use the pillow.
