Linking up with Rose for the Inspire Me Blog Hop.
I finally finished decorating my mantel. I am quite happy with how it turned out. 🙂 I saw this on pintrest, and figured I could do it myself. It wasn’t really hard, just took a bit of time. Here is how mine turned out.
All in all I think it looks pretty swell. Here is how I did it
DIY Jingle Bell Letter Blocks
1. Get a 2 x 4 piece of wood (I believe the length is 8 feet).
2. From that cut two blocks that are 6 inches (the J and E), two that are 4 1/2 inches (the I and L), two that are 3 inches (the N and G) and one that is 7 inches (the bells).
3. After the blocks are cut you can sand them a little if you want to smooth them out some.
4. Prime all the blocks, let them dry.
5. Paint two coats on the blocks using whatever color you would like the letters to be. I had some white paint that we had used on our doors and trim laying around that I used. It had a glossy finish.
6. Let the paint dry.
7. Using scrapbook paper cut out the following dimensions:
~ Two: 3 1/2″ x 6″ (J and E)
~ Two: 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2 ” (I and L)
~Two: 3 1/2″ x 3″ (G and N)
~ One: 3 1/2″ x 7″ (bells)
8. Cut the letters out of the paper in whatever font you would like.
9. Use rubber cement and adhere the scrapbook paper with the letters cut out to the wood blocks.
10. Let that dry for about an hour.
11. After it has dried put a few coats of modge podge (I used gloss) over it letting it dry between coats. It may bubble up a bit, if it does just flatten it some with your finger,
12. Last, enjoy your work!
If you decided to try it out, let me know how it goes!
