So obviously I haven’t posted for a bit. Life got a bit crazy, so I’m just going to do a big recap post.
When I last left you I believe I was talking about the impending ice storm, which did for sure hit. So we will start with Wednesday.
Wednesday (Day three of mid winter break)
So, as predicted, a pretty immense ice storm hit us on Wednesday. I was a bit worried because Annabelle was supposed to have a Mimi date, and feared it would have to be postponed. Thankfully the storm held off and she got to go.
We were also able to have our playdate (and therefore share our St. Patrick’s Day dessert charcuterie board) Annabelle has been friends with Sabrina since Kindergarten. Sabrina has a sister and brother similar in age to Autumn and Aubrie so they all play very well together. I also really get along well with their mom, so it’s usually pretty fun. It does get a bit crazy with 6 kids, but it is so much fun! Here they are waiting to see who is going to be the imposter.
Thursday (day four of mid winter break)
So the ice storm that hit us lasted from mid Wednesday into early Thursday morning. We awoke to lots of ice, a huge branch down in the backyard, and a small tree down in the front.
Here are a few pictures from the storm.
Thankfully we didn’t lose power, like about 600,000 other people in our area (the ice weighed down the power lines, then wind downed them). We did however loose internet late Wednesday, which is why I wasn’t able to post anything.
The roads ended up being pretty decent by lunch, so the girls and I did end up heading to the mall to work a cookie booth that our troop picked up last minute.
Friday (last day of mid winter break)
On Friday it was back to the mall to work another cookie booth. The girls have big goals (they each want to sell 350 boxes of cookies), so we end up working a lot of booths. The girls do like working them, so I don’t mind getting them there and helping them out. They way I look at it that they aren’t really in many sports, so Scouts is their thing.
We also got our internet back, which was nice. The girls were excited to be able to use Alexa again.
Saturday
On Saturday, you guessed it, we worked another cookie booth! My friend (who I’ve known since I was 6) ended up coming up and buying a few boxes, then she came back over and hung out a bit. We played Beat the Parents, which the adults won. 😉 We then played Rook, which is a game similar to Euchre (which, unless you live in Michigan or Ohio you probably have no idea what that game is).
Rook is a partner game in which you and your partner try to win the hand by playing the best card (they are numbered 1-14, 1 is the worst 14 the best). Each round whoever bids choses which color is “trump” which means that wins over any other card. The rook card is the best card which trumps everything. So one person leads, and everyone tries tp play the best card to win. Only 5, 10, and 14s are worth points, and after all the hands are played, you ad your partner count your points. First pair to 300 wins.
After my friend left, we played a few games of Rook as a family, then the girls had left over crepes for dinner and watched a bit of TV. After they headed to bed and Matt and I ordered a pizza and watched a movie.
Sunday
On Sunday we headed to church. Annabelle asked me to curl her hair which I jumped on since she never ever lets me touch her hair any more. Since Annabelle was getting her hair curled, all the girls wanted me to do it for them to. It made me pretty happy…. even if the curls didn’t last too long.
After we got back from church we hung out for a bit before I dropped the girls off at the last cookie booth of the weekend. When they got back from the cookie booth we played some games, ate dinner, then stayed up a little late playing Rook.
The girls were hopeful for another ice day, but alas it was back to school for them on Monday. We did get some more ice, but it wasn’t too bad, and thankfully the roads were ok. This week is a bit of a busy week, but hopefully I will still get a post up on Friday (no guarantees).
I hope everyone has a fabulous week!
