Today I am linking up with Holly for her monthly musing link up. While I don’t usually post on Thursday, I never pass up an opportunity to chat holidays!
Favorite holiday traditions?
I have no idea how on earth to narrow this down! I pretty much love all things Christmas. I love watching my girls get excited to find Jingles, our elf (who doesn’t arrive until December 1st). I love celebrating with family (which will look different this year). Baking all the cookies. Decorating the tree. Watching my girls open presents Christmas morning is fun too. So yeah…. pretty much everything.
Must have holiday wardrobe staples?
Usually I like buying the girls a new Christmas outfit to wear to church on Christmas Eve, but since we won’t be attending Mass this year we may just use the outfits from last year (if we even get dressed up). I also like making the girls some comfy pants.
Favorite recipe/dish?
Magic cookie bars. Hands down.
What will your holiday plans look like this year?
Honestly, I have no idea. I do know that my extended family will not be getting together. I’m trying to plan for the worst though, so that my kids aren’t too disappointed. We are currently in a three week “pause” in terms of a shutdown, so we will have to see what happens after December 19th.
Does COVID-19 make you more into the holidays or less?
More. Christmas time brings me so much joy, and it makes everything going on in the world a little more bearable. If it was up to me our decorations would already be going up. But alas, Matt is a firm “no Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving”. You better believe bright and early Friday morning there will be Christmas all over.
Do you have any charities you like to help this time of year?
No charities in particular. We try to donate a little here and there, but it is something I’d like to be more involved in.
Tree before or after Thanksgiving?
See answer above, but after. We used to go Up North for Thanksgiving, and our cats would have destroyed the tree if we put it up before Thanksgiving. Also, Matt would never have it anyway.
Favorite holiday movie?
Elf for sure. I still can’t get over how old the movie actually is. I remember seeing it in theaters when I was in college. I hadn’t laughed so hard in such a long a time. Now they are calling it a “classic” which makes me feel old. I mean when I think of a classic I think of It’s a Wonderful Life, which is another favorite of mine. And of course Die Hard.
Also, last year I made this my chalkboard, and I was very disappointed how few people got it. If you know, you know. I actually want to make a shirt with something similar. Because my love of Elf runs deep.
Egg Nog?
Yes. Preferably spiked.
