How is it already the end of November?! I swear it was just the start of Fall and now we are nearing Winter, and my favorite holiday of all, Christmas! When it comes to Christmas I can be quite the planner, and one of the biggest things that needs to get planned is what on earth to get the kids. If you are struggling with what to get your child (or a niece or nephew), then I have a great options for you! Today I wanted to share a sweet toy that fosters creativity, and would put a smile on any child’s face.
Enter The Think and Learn Rocktopus, by Fischer-Price.
Autumn was so excited when I showed her the Rocktopus. Just take a look at her face if you don’t believe me. And truth be told, I was super excited too. As a former high school marching band member (yes, I still have my clarinet), and a piano player, I love music. The Rocktopus allows my girls to explore a large variety of musical styles from classical to rock. How cool is that??
Super Easy Set up!
Getting it set up is super simple as well. I love that you just have to snap on the gray piece on the back, turn it on and you are ready to start using the Rocktopus. Have fun learning about the 15 different instruments that come with the Rocktopus, and yes it made my heart happy to see that a clarinet was one of them. Autumn couldn’t wait to start exploring what kind of music she could make.
Three fun learning modes!
The Rocktopus comes with three modes music, math, and game. Each mode allows children to explore something different all while having fun! Overall I would say that Autumn’s (and Annabelle’s) favorite mode is the music mode.  It’s awesome to watch them compose their own music! I love to get involved in the action too, and show them how changing the instruments changes how the song sounds.
You can even speed up the music or slow it down. Both My girls love making their music, then dancing around to it. I really love dancing with them and encouraging them to move their bodies slow to the slow music, and faster when we speed it up. It’s really fun to watch them laugh and dance together.
While the music mode may be a favorite, Autumn has also been having fun with the math and game modes. I love that it is teaching her concepts like patterns, addition and subtraction. It’s done in a way that is simple for young children to understand, so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment when they get it right. Any toy that can keep my girls’ attention for longer than five minutes, and teach them something in the process is a winner in my book.
Who would love the Rocktopus?
Any music lover in your life. The Rocktopus is geared towards ages 3-6 and it really does a great job keeping all ages engaged. It makes the perfect gift for any young learner in your life! Plus you can pick it up at your local Walmart (layaway is back), so it’s an easy toy to get!
