Happy Monday! I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the weekend. Matt and I made lots of progress on the basement playroom, which has me pumped. We removed all of the furniture, the carpet, and the tack strip. Next up is to do some minor mudding, then it’s paint time! But now, onto today’s post, an easy dollar store tiered tray!
It’s not too early to talk about Halloween is it? I mean everything has been pretty crazy, but now we are entering into my favorite time to decorate for. Everything from fall- Christmas just brings me so much joy. And, I think we can all use a little joy in our lives.
I don’t know if you’ve seen these tiered trays popping up on Pinterest, but I think they are so cool. After I saw a few I knew I needed one of my own, but also knew I wanted to make it myself, and didn’t want to spend lots of money on it. Enter the dollar store. Whenever I start some sort of DIY craft like this easy dollar store tired tray I head to the dollar store. That way if I really mess up I haven’t wasted lots of money.
Materials for easy dollar store tired tray
- one smaller plate or platter
- a larger plate or platter
- a candle holder
- spray paint (which I am not sure you can get at the dollar store)
- epoxy (we had this at home)
So I got small ceramic plate, a larger plastic cake platter, and a short glass candle holder. I was hopping for a candle holder for a larger candle, but I decided to work with what I have.
How to put tray together
To put it together you need to figure out what way you want the candle holder to go on the larger tray. I decided I would flip it upside like shown. After use epoxy to glue the items together. I let this sit overnight to ensure everything was set.

Finally, figure out what color you want to spray paint it with. I went with black since I have visions of decorating it with a Hocus Pocus theme.
Obviously I won’t be putting anything to heavy on the top since the candle holder is glass, but over all I am quite pleased with how it turned out.
I really do love how easy it was to put this together. And I am so excited to create some small Hocus Pocus decorations to put on it (if you love Hocus Pocus like me, check out the shirt I made. You can get a cut file to make your own too). I will probably head back to the dollar store to see if they have any new candle holders so I can create a more neutral tiered tray. Just think of how awesome it would look for fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays… the possibilities are endless!
