Man, it’s been a while since I joined a link up! Today I’m linking up with Leslie for her monthly 10 on the 10th link up.
So, what are my 10 favorite things about summer?
ONE: School’s Out (for summer!) It’s always been nice to get a break from all the hustle and bustle of summer. This school year was challenging trying to fit Aubrie’s naps in between pick up and drop off. Being able just to chill and do what we want when we want is nice.
TWO: The pool is open! Although we do open the pool near the end of spring, it gets most of the use in the summer. Now that Annabelle is a pretty strong swimmer and Autumn can hold her own with a puddle jumper, it’s a little less stressful being in the pool with them. I mean I obviously still watch them like a hawk, and they know they aren’t allowed in the pool area without an adult.
THREE: Grilling and smoking season Nothing tastes quite as good as the first grilled or smoked meat of the season. We’ve already done a brisket on the smoker and it was so tasty. I can’t wait for smoked turkey.
FOUR: More daylight It is so nice when the days start getting longer. I love being able to spend lots of time outside.
FIVE: Up North Going Up North was always a highlight of summer once Matt and I got married. Sadly the cottage is flooded, and Matt’s grandparents will be selling it (once they get the water damage figured out), so we won’t be able to go there anymore.
SIX: Fourth of July Every year my parent’s neighbors throw a big Fourth of July Party. A few of the families (my dad included) chip in to get a bunch of fireworks, and it’s a great time. Unfortunately, the decision has been made to not have the party this year. Hopefully it will continue next year.
SEVEN: Sangria Nothing tastes better than a glass of cool sangria. If you want a tasty recipe check out my Apple Cider Sangria recipe (I know that cider is more of a fall thing, but you can get cider from some mills around here, so I decided to include it).
EIGHT: Campfire’s and S’mores: I love sitting by a campfire and eating smores. I’m hoping we can get more use out of the fire pit we have this year.
NINE: Iced Coffee: Summer is the only time I drink iced coffee, and it is just so tasty!
TEN: Making Memories: I think that summer is such a magical time for young kids. I really try hard to do fun activities, make fun recipes and just take time to breath. This summer I really hope to have a “90s style summer” with limited screen time and lots of outside time!
