Today I am joining up with Erin of Perfectly Port for her link up 10 on 10. This month the theme is 10 memories with your spouse, and although the link up went live Monday, I knew I wanted to share a little something about my hubs on Valentine’s Day! 🙂
Also, some of these memories are from before we became husband and wife, but I always loving learning more about the back story of people, so I wanted to tell a little bit about ours.
ONE: Our first Date
So today is actually the 14th anniversary of our first date ( I had to double and triple check to make sure that number was right). I was so excited when he asked me out. It was my first ever date on Valentine’s Day. We went to the movies (and saw Win a Date with Tad Hamilton) then went out to eat. We parked in between the movie theater and the restaurant, and had to walk through a little bit of grass to go to eat. Well the grass ended up being super wet, and super muddy, so our shoes got all muddy. He felt pretty bad, but I wasn’t really upset. I still like to poke fun at him. 😉
A week after our date we were “official”. This picture isn’t from our first date, but still a picture from when we first started dating.
TWO: The Proposal
I’ve gotta hand it to him. Matt did good. One of the places we always liked to frequent was a downtown area near us. I always mentioned how awesome it would be to be proposed to in front of the fountain. Well fast forward to 2007. We started looking at rings so he had an idea of what I wanted. Then one night we were going out to eat to a fancy restaurant “for his birthday” (which made sense, since he proposed on his birthday). I thought “maybe he will propose” but everyone was like no, he’s not going to do that on his birthday. Well after dinner he asked if we wanted to go walk around downtown. So now I started wondering again. After walking around we took me to a cute little bench and popped the question. It wasn’t in front of the fountain, because there was an outdoor concert going on, and way too crowded. But the area he chose was wonderful.
THREE: The wedding
I don’t think this needs much explanation. 😉
Although… funny story. As the priest was talking to us, I mentioned that there was a minor snafu with the limo (in which we ended up with yellow charger). Well my dad later informed me, that snafu actually stands for situation normal all f*ed up. Oops…
Four: Honeymoon
Neither Matt or I had ever been anywhere super tropical before. After talking with a AAA agent, we booked a stay at the Paradisus Royal in Punta Cana, and let me tell you. It was amazing. All inclusive resorts are where it is at friends.
Five: Trips Up North
Ever since Matt and I started dating we have gone on vacation “Up North” with his family. To those of you unfamilar “Up North” is a term us Michiganders use when we head to the northern part of MI, or the UP (upper peninsula) and stay in a a cottage or cabin.
Six: Tahquamenon Falls
On one trip Up North, we went for a day trip to the UP to visit Tahquamenon Falls. It was so much fun to see the falls. I was just barely pregnant with Annabelle at the time.
Seven: Birth of the Girls
How could I not put bringing the girls into the world in this list??
Eight: Halloween Parties
Before kids we used to throw a Halloween party. We invited people to dress up, and we all just ate, drank, and played board games. As kids came into the mix, the parties have kind of falling to the wayside. I would love to try to start them up again!
Nine: Trip to Chicago
A few years after we got married Matt’s old roommate tied the knot in Chicago. We took the train, stayed in the Hard Rock Hotel (where the wedding reception was) and had a blast. This was before kids, so we had not a care in the world.
Ten: Everyday life
I love the small everyday memories we make. Cooking homemade pizzas, binge watching Better Off Ted, just being able to relax with a glass or wine after the kids go to bed.
