Joining up with Beth, Courtney and Sarah to take part in their holiday home tour. You can join too!
Not going to lie, I haven’t exactly been in the best holiday mood lately. Most of the decoration went up before we headed Up North for Thanksgiving, and I haven’t really been able to do any more decorating. But here is what I do have.
Family room:
I’ve said it before, but our mantel is super hard to decorate because it is so long. I try to break it up a little. I meant to put lights up in the garland, but haven’t done it yet.
A few close ups:
Snowmen (you can’t really see them behind the lamp)
Stockings:
Here is Annabelle’s stocking.
Autumn’s stocking will not be finished this year, so we have a proxy. #momfail Next year!
Kitchen:
We like to display holiday mugs on the stove. As a former teacher I have way more mugs than fit on top of the stove (mugs with hot cocoa are big gifts). I try to change up the mugs year to year.
It’s just more fun drinking from a Christmas mug.
I put up decoration on the windowsill also.
Now I have something pretty to look at while I am washing dishes for the one billionth time.
A few year ago I made a wreath. It helps to add some cheer to the kitchen. When I first hung it up Annabelle said “Two Christmas tress! One in living room, one in kitchen!” I had to explain to her that this is called a wreath. Silly girl.
Finally I like to display these plates we got as a Christmas gift.
Family Room:
The family room is where we have our tree. We have to move the furniture all around, to make it fit, but it adds some great cheer.
I only just finished putting the lights on the tree. Let me say, this tree has been through a lot.
1. When we bought the tree (our first Thanksgiving married) it was pre-lit. We thought we bought a multi colored tree, but it was white. We decided to buy a bunch of multi colored strings to change the lights. I did…. and holy batman, it was a ton of work.
2. When we put the tree up last year we noticed part of the tree was burned out. We tried and tried to figure out which bulb was causing the issue, but never did. So we just made sure the burnt out part was in the corner so it was less noticeable. At the end of the year we took the lights off the tree. Another difficult task since the strands were all attached with these annoying little clips. Matt then bought five stands of lights last year to use this year.
3. Guess what… five stands was not nearly enough. The reason it took so long to get the lights up was because we ordered more, and had to wait for like 2 weeks to get them. Then you know what… we still needed two more stands! Thankfully Matt went out to buy them from the store, and had to go five separate stores to find lights that would match the ones we had. Five stores people, and he brought Annabelle! I think he now understands the pain of taking the girls to run a quick trip… getting them in and out of their car seats is no fun.
I didn’t take a picture, but the tree skirt we use is super special. My Aunt (and Godmother) made it for our wedding. She made one for my parents years ago, and I also told her how much I loved it. So imagine my surprise when I opened her gift. 🙂
There you have it! I haven’t been on my game in terms of the chalkboard, but figured I’d share the one I did two years ago, which is one of my post pinned pins (almost 200 repins).
