So this post is way late, but better late than never right?
For Autumn’s birthday I decided to go with a color scheme. I didn’t really want to do a “theme” since Autumn really isn’t into anything and colors are easy to work with.
I love planning, so this party was lots of fun. We didn’t have a huge party, but it was big enough. Since I didn’t want to legit feed a meal to everyone, I planned the party to occur after lunch, but before nap. The main focus of the party was the dessert table.
If I’m going to do anything all out, it’s going to be dessert. I mean, dessert is the best part of any meal, am I right? The main focus of the table was the balloon arch!
Seriously! How awesome is that?! It actually wasn’t too hard to do either (thanks to some help from my daddy). It lasted quite some time too. I finally took down three-ish weeks after putting it up. I got the idea from At Home with Natalie, who followed the tutorial from The House that Lars Built.
When I made my arch, I used coated chicken wire, since that’s the only stuff we had. My dad rolled it up so it was a tube. We then used 3M hooks to hang it. I couldn’t get my hot glue gun to work, so I just used packing tape to attach the balloons to each other.
So what did I have on my dessert table?
First up? Sugar cookies!
Besides the fact that I had to throw out the first batch of cookies (pretty sure I got some funky meringue powder), they weren’t too hard to make. Just a bit time consuming, since you have to let the layers dry before adding the next. I used cake stands I scored on major sale to display them.
Next up?
Cake pops!
I honestly feel I can’t have a party without them. They are so, so, so, tasty. And I’m not talking about ones you make with a cake pop maker. I’m talking about the ones you roll by hand. To display them I put floral foam in a simple storage container, then poured sugar over it to hide the foam. I’ve tried lots of different ways and floral foam is the way to go.
Then of course, whats a birthday party with out cupcakes?! I find cupcakes are much easier to serve at parties than cakes.
I also made Autumn her own cake to have at the party.
We also had a “snack” table with fruit, chips and such. A few of my family members offered to bring some snacks, and I didn’t turn them down. If anyone offers to bring food to a party, don’t turn them down!
Also, I totally did a smash cake with Autumn before her party. I knew I would be running around that day, so decided to do it earlier.
The top of the cake looked way nicer before it fell of the stand and smashed…
Just like her sister, Autumn didn’t have much interest in the cake. Which is surprising, since she likes food way more than Annabelle did.
