You guys, I am so excited to share this free apple themed unit (click on the link download your copy) with you today!! It has 18 different activities across all subjects. Each lesson has the Common Core Standards and Michigan Benchmarks associated with it listed. These are geared towards 2nd grade but can easily be differentiated for all levels.

After I learned that Annabelle’s school would be starting remotely I has some major doubts about how it would work for us. Autumn is going to a young 5s preschool, and as of now it is still open. I struggled with figuring out how I would get Autumn to and from school, and take care of Aubrie, all while making sure Annabelle was available for online learning from 9am-4pm. While she wouldn’t be online that whole time, there would still need me to supervise most of the time, which just didn’t seem feasible. I did not take this decision lightly, as I support public education, but I need to do what will allow me to be a good mom. Also, as soon as face to face learning resumes, she will be going back.
So, onto the lessons!
Lesson included in the free apple themed unit
Like I said, before this unit comes with eighteen lessons, they are:
- What apples need to grow
- life cycle of an apple
- parts of an apple blossom
- pollination #1
- pollination #2
- pollination #3
- pollination #4
- odd and even
- map the orchard
- building shapes
- story problems
- vowel team sort
- how to make an apple pie writing
- money match
- 100s chart problems
- base ten apples
- equivalent equations
- opinion piece: best part of the orchard

Suggestions on what you may want to purchase
- For many of the activities I laminated the pieces. This way we can use them more than once. I bought this amazon basic laminator and have been happy with it.
- If you don’t want to use real money for the Farmer’s Market lesson, invest in some fake money. The great thing about this is that your kids can use it while playing as well.
- Wet erase markers for writing on the laminate.
How the unit works
There really is no right or wrong way to use the unit. At the beginning of the unit I have a few printables (like a blank tree, or blank apples) that are used with more than one lesson. Also my plan for an assessment is to create an “apple book” which uses journal pages created during the unit.
As we do the lessons I will create a blog post (and link it above) so you can see more in depth how the lesson worked.
Other than the parts of the flower and pollination lessons each lesson is basically a stand alone lesson. Do one lesson a day, or multiple it is up to you!
If you are a teacher, or a mom being thrown into teaching your children at home, I hope this free apple themed unit will provide some ideas, and help calm any nerves you may have.
