I debated with also titling this post Spring cleaning while amidst a pandemic and trying to stay sane, but figured that title may be a little too long. Now that the weather is hopefully warming up here in the mitten state I’ve started thinking about spring cleaning. And since it seems we are going to be stuck in our house for the foreseeable future it may as well be a clean one. I’ve also included a free spring cleaning checklist!
I’ve included a printable of the check list I am planning on using, but also wanted to offer some tips and tricks on how I plan on tackling this with three kids at home, since school will probably be cancelled for the year.
Take it slow
No one ever said you need to spring clean your house in one weekend. If you try to do it all at once you will more than likely get burned out. My plan is to stretch it out over two-three weeks. I want to do a decent job and if I try to cram it all in, things will probably be missed. Which brings me to my next point.
Focus on one room at a time
I tend to be all over the place at times (which is evident if you look at all the half started craft projects I have). Since I already do my weekly cleaning room by room, I plan on adding my spring cleaning checklist to what I am already doing. For example I clean upstairs on Wednesdays, so one week I may tackle the spring cleaning of the bedrooms, and another week I’ll do the bathrooms.
Kids can spring clean too
Lately I’ve been having the older girls help out a lot more around the house. They go through their closets and dressers (perhaps with a bit of help). I use vinegar/water spray for dusting. They are perfectly capable of wiping baseboard molding.
Try to de-clutter
Before you start spring cleaning try to de-clutter. It will help move along the process when you actually start to clean. Not having to stop what you are doing to move that pile of mail or finally figure out what to do with all the paper laying around the house.
Work from the top down
I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but when cleaning rooms start from the top and work your way down. Dust walls and high places first, so that when the dust falls, you can later vacuum it up. If you are going through all the trouble of spring cleaning, you don’t want to do it twice.
Make it as fun as you can
I mean obviously I would rather be crafting, or going out to dinner (do you remember when we got to go places?) but I know I feel good after I get my spring cleaning done. I like to put music on and dance around a bit while I clean. Once you finish a room you could light a candle or run a diffusee. Maybe even have some chocolate or nice glass of wine.
You can click here to get your free instant download spring cleaning check list. I didn’t include the basement or garage, and just realized I forgot about the laundry room. But there is an area to add your own tasks in so I will probably add them there.
