**I have working partnership with Goldfish Swim School. While they provide me with complimentary lessons, all thoughts and comments are my own.**
Do you think of swimming as just a warm weather activity? Once the snow starts flying does your mind quickly dismiss the pool? Living in Michigan, winter can get pretty cold, but I’m here to tell why my girls will continue less with Goldfish Swim School throughout the season.
ONE: Practice makes perfect
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “if you don’t use it you’ll lose it”. As a former teacher I remember how hard the first few weeks of school are after returning from summer vacation. Many times we had to re-teach skills that were taught the year before, but just forgoten about after a long break. The same is true of swimming. If children (espescially younger ones who are just learning how to swim) take a long break, their muscles will have to re-learn what was perviously taught. Continuing lessons through out the winter helps kids stay on track.
TWO: A fun activity
Once winter hits we often have long weeks of bitter cold, with below zero windchill. When it’s that cold it can be dangerous to be outside, so we end up trapped in our house. After a while, the girls and I end up stir crazy. I love that I can take them to Goldfish for swim lessons and family swim times. It may be cold outside, but Goldfish is a toasty 90 degrees. Plus when you are all done swimming you don’t have to worry about leaving with wet hair. They have showers (complete with shampoo, conditioner, and wonderful smelling body wash), and hair dryers to use.
THREE: Safety at indoor water parks/ pools
While you may not be swimming outside anytime soon, there are still many opportunities s to swim indoors. Between water parks, indoor pools, and vacationing at hotels, water is still there. At every lesson at Goldfish kids are taught life-saving skills. These skills don’t only pertain to outdoor pools. Swimming is such an important skill, you never know when your child may find themselves by a body of water. You want to make sure they know how to stay safe.
FOUR: Keep kids active (and give you a break)
Like I said early, winter weather makes it hard to run around outside. My girls have lots of energy, and I need to give them a way to burn it off. Swimming does just that! They have a chance to get their wiggles out, and mom gets a little break.
So what are you waiting for? Why not check out if there is a Goldfish Swim School around you?
