We went to the orthotist yesterday for our monthly helmet check. Thanks goodness we didn’t have our appoint today, since we got hit with yet more snow. Although this storm didn’t dump as much snow on us as the past storms, it hit right during the morning commute making the roads miserable. Matt stayed home today because of the conditions. I will have to post a picture of all the snow we have.
Anyhow, back to the helmet. Everything continues to look good. She hasn’t grown width wise, and her CI (cephalic index) is now at a 96%. I asked Robin (the orthotist we see) what she hopes to get Annabelle’s CI down to. I mentioned this in an earlier post, but the average CI is 78% and anything within +/- two standard deviations is considered normal. For Annabelle, because she is a girl who is 6-12 months, the CI range is 69.5%-87.5%. Robin said her goal is always to get children within that range, but she does not think that Annabelle will get there. I kind of already figured that out but would like to keep her in the helmet as long as possible to get the best results. Part of me wonders if I would have made a bigger stink about the flatness of her head at her four month appointment, maybe we would have seen better results. Even though her CI is still high, I feel that there are such major improvements.
Even though she is still being a champion helmet wearer, I am ready to be able to kiss her head anytime I want (not just the hour the helmet is off), put bows and headbands on her head, and not have to clean the helmet everyday.
