Now that our big Christmas party has come and gone, it’s time to start planning for Annabelle’s first birthday. Since I have a fairly large family, Matt and I decided to have a family only party. As much as I would love to invite all our friends too, there is just not enough room in the house. I know it seems a bit early, but really it’s only a month and a half away (and I like to plan). I had been pinning ideas on Pintrest here and there, but I didn’t really know the direction I was going to take. I finally decided on a pink ombre theme. As I go I will share what I have completed, then at the the end I will do a final post.
Outfit:
I created a no-sew “pink ombre” tutu for Annabelle to wear when she does her cake smash, as well as for her party. There are tons of no-sew tutorials out there. My two favorites were this one (except I made my cardboard the length I wanted the tutu to be and only cut one end) and this one. To create her tutu I used a pink crochet headband and three spools of 6″ wide- 20′ long tulle (one spool in each color). I started at the bottom with the darkest color (which I made 8 inches long), then the medium color was in the middle (7 inches long) and the lightest color was on the top (6 inches long). It made a very puffy tutu, and I am quite pleased with it! I still plan on making a onesie, and will share that when I finish it.
Invites:
I saw a really cute picture of a baby holding wooden letters which spell out the word one. I’m cheap frugal, and didn’t want to have to go out and buy the letters. Plus, I didn’t want to have to spend the time painting them, so I just used scrapbook paper and glued them to some file folder to make them a bit sturdy. After taking the pictures, I then used PicMonkey to create the invite. I made it 4 X6, which hopefully means I can use postcard stamps to send them out. Here is how the invites turned out (the date, time and place went in the blank ovals).
My next step is to do a sample cake. I found a great funfetti recipe here, but am worried about reactions to eggs, plus there was a lot of sugar in it (and since I am going to frost it, I wanted to see if I could get away with a less sweet cake). I modified the recipe a bit, so that it has less sugar and no eggs. It does taste a bit banana-y (since I used a banana in place of some of the sugar), but overall, I think it will do. I may tweak it a bit more, and once I do I will post the recipe.
I have also started planning decorations/ snacks (I may or may not have done a sketch of how I want things set up), but most of that needs to be done closer to the date. I am so excited! 🙂
