Look at me getting another post done!
As most of you know, I taught first grade before becoming a stay at home mom. Now that Annabelle is getting older I’d like to start doing some “educational” activities with her. I use the term educational very loosely here. I am a big believer in the importance of play, and think children can learn a lot through play. I will try to use more play based activities.
Annabelle has become very interested in numbers and colors, so I decided to start there. The first activity I made was a color sort. This is something that is super easy, and anyone that anyone can do.
All you have to do is get some construction paper, and objects of different colors and let you kid sort them.
If your child is a bit older, you can write the color on the top of the construction paper and cut it off so they can match the name as well.
Simple and fun. It allows kids to be engaged in the activity, and provides some tactile experience if you use different materials to sort. Whenever she picks up on object I have her tell me what color it is, then have her put it on the right color. I guess our cat was interested in learning about colors too…
One of Annabelle favorite things to do is to take a green object put in on the wrong color look at me, laugh and say “no”. I find it pretty funny.
I will be writing more posts on other activities to do with colors, so stay tuned!
