For this Oh Hey! Friday I wanted to share with you five fun things to do in Michigan!
I was born and raised in Michigan, and love my state something fierce! I love the fact that we have four season, and the fact that we have two peninsulas is pretty cool too. So, what should you do if you find yourself in Michigan?
ONE
Visit the UP (upper peninsula to all you non-Michianders). There is a wide variety of things to do in the upper peninsula. I would suggest visiting Tahquamenom Falls or the Soo Locks. For those of you who don’t know, the Soo Locks connect Lake Superior with the Lower Great Lakes. There is 21 foot drop between Lake Superior and the Lower Great Lakes. The locks allow boats to travel through this drop safely.
By the way, these pictures are from 2012 (I was just barely pregnant with Annabelle at this time).

TWO
If you happen to be visiting Michigan in the fall, find a U-Pick apple orchard. Nothing tastes better than an apple fresh off the tree. My orchard of choice is Erwin’s Apple Orchard located in South Lyon. I have been going there since I was a small child, and am so excited to share the experience with Annabelle. I haven’t been yet this season, but here are some pics from other times.
THREE
Head up to East Lansing to visit MSU. It is a beautiful campus (and home to the Spartans of course)! They also have a stellar ice cream store. If you are of age, head over to Grand River on the opposite side of campus and hit up some bars. If you like long islands check out The Peanut Barrel. I suppose you could visit other schools, but really why? 😉
The amazon Spartan Stadium! Man, do I miss cheering on my team from the student section. |
The Red Cedar river that runs through campus (as our fight song states “On the banks of the Red Cedar”). Just don’t go swimming in it. |
Here is Beaumont Tower. |
FOUR
Visit Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Last week I posted about how Matt, my sister in law, and her husband climbed the dunes. There is a lot more to than just a dune climb, so check it out! If you have young ones you could even read The Legend of Sleeping Bear Dunes before going (it is a little sad so maybe not really young ones.
FIVE
See some Great Lakes. If you visit Michigan you have got to visit at
least one Great Lake. There are five Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario,
Michigan, Erie, and Superior).

If you visit the Soo Locks, you will see Lake Superior.
