There are so many fun things you can do with shape bokeh.  If you missed it, you can check out what I did first with heart bokeh in this post.  That first post inspired me to come up with more ideas of how to use shape bokeh.  Today I wanted to share with you how to make it look like it’s “raining” hearts.
This is actually pretty easy to set up. Â Once again I am using my Canon Rebel and a 50mm fixed lens. Â I explain how to make the “lens cap” to get the heart shaped bokeh in this post, so be sure to go and check that out.
You are going to need a bit of space to set this up (like 20 feet).
Set a backdrop up (I use a sheet), then your subject about 10 feet in front of that, then your camera about 10 feet in front of your subject. Â Then drape lights over the sheet (sorry, I already had started cleaning up when I realized I forgot to take a picture of the initial set up).
You need your subject far enough in front of the back drop that when you focus on her (or him) the lights in the back ground are out of focus (thus creating the shape bokeh).
You’ll have to play a little bit to get the lights where you need them.
For example, my first try… not the best.
Still not quite right.
After a few times I was able to get it right, and snapped as many pictures as Annabelle would allow.
So there you have it! Just in time for Valentine’s Day! 🙂
