So, did you celebrate National Margarita Day on Monday?!
I had no idea such a day existed, until I was hanging out with a few neighbors. We decided pretty quick that we needed to have a moms night.
One of my neighbors even had some tequila from Mexico that we used!
Seriously. So yummy!
If you’ve never made a margarita before, it’s super easy. It’s just Cointreau, tequila, lime juice and some simple syrup. The amount really all depends on how you want it to taste.
I went with:
1 shot Cointreau
2 shots tequila
1 shot lime juice
1/2 shot simple syrup (to make just boil equal parts sugar and water until sugar is dissolved).
Combine all in a shaker with ice, and pour into a glass filled with ice. If desired run a lime around the edge of the glass and dip in salt.
It was a tad strong, so go with a little less tequila, or a little more simple syrup.
I also made a yummy margarita with some drinking vinegar (also know as shrubs). One of the moms in my mom’s club started a company, McClary Bros, which produces drinking vinegars. You may remember her from Shark Tank, if not, you should go check out her website, and if you want to buy some, and don’t live in Michigan, don’t worry, they ship!
So to make this yummy drink I went with:
1 shot tequila
1 shot Contriau
1 shot lime juice
1.5 shots Michigan Apple Pie Drinking Vinegar
1/2 shot of simple syrup
Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, and pour into a cinnamon and sugar rimmed glass.
It was so yummy! Appl-y, tequila-y (super legit terms here) and just a little tangy from the vinegar. Really, if you are looking for a fun new way to make drinks, check out her page. They have tons of cocktail recipes, along with other ways to use the vinegar (like making salad dressings).
I had so much fun hanging out with the neighbors, and if my phone ever decides to cooperate, I’ll post a few pics my neighbor took with her phone.
I really am happy that we are starting to get to know our neighbors. Growing up, everyone in my parent’s neighborhood knew everyone. Everyone had kids, and we all played together. My summers were filled with going from house, to house, to park with the neighborhood kids. There were always cookout to attend, and sleep overs to be had. When Matt and I got married and moved into our neighborhood (which is right across the street from my parents), it wasn’t the same. Most of our neighbors where older, or had older children. I’m not saying we weren’t pleasant to each other, just never hung out.
Now, younger families (with younger kids) are starting to move in, and it’s great!! We can just call up our friends to hang out, and walk to their house. I can have adult conversations, Annabelle can play with kids her age. Win! Win!!
