I am happy to say the quiet book I am making for Annabelle is almost done!! All that is left to do is sew all the pages together. I’ve got to say I am pretty happy with how it turned out.
Today I am going to share how to make the shoes on this page.
I realize that there is probably a much better way of making the shoes. This is what worked best for me after a few failed trials.
Step One:
Sorry, there are a lot of steps in one. I forgot to take better pictures as I was making them.
Trace the sole of a small shoe (be sure to have both left and right) onto a piece of paper (I use freeze paper). Cut 6 shoes (three left and three right). In my pictures the pear fabric is the outside of the shoe, the pink (which I already sewed to the page) is the sole.
On one set of your outside of the shoe cut oblong holes (seen on the pair of fabric on the right).
Step Two:
Sew together one piece of fabric with a hole in it to one without using a zigzag stitch.
Step Three:
Cut out the hole in the center. Be sure not to cut your stitches. It’s kind of similar to making a button hole… just a really big button hole.
Step Four:
Make your straps and attach velcroe to one end. I simply zig-zag stiched two piece of left over fabric together, with right sides facing out (I did it this way to avoid having to turn out the fabric).
Step Five:
Sew velcroe (opposite of what is on the strap) to the outside of the shoe.
Step Six:
Sew the sole of the shoe onto the page of the quiet book. I just used a straight stitch as it will get covered up by the outside of the shoe.
Step Seven:
Attach the strap.
Step Eight:
Attach the outside of the shoe using a zigzag stitch.
And there you have it! Shoes that your little one can practice doing and undoing. Hopefully it will also help them remember the velcroe goes on the outside of the shoe.
I will try to get the directions for the pocket on the blog in the next few days.
Linking up with Beth and the ladies for their new Link Up, Tuesday Talk. Excited to have a new link up to join! 🙂
